REGULATIONS REGARDING UNIFORM AND APPEARANCE


SUMMER UNIFORM


GIRLS:
• Tunic ONLY – must not be shorter than knee length.
• Short-sleeved, open-neck white blouse.
• white socks
• (Baby Doll) or plain black leather lace-up shoes.
• Blazer – compulsory (daily).
• School jersey – if needed
NOTE: No school tracksuit jacket can be worn to replace blazer or school jersey.


BOYS:
• Dark grey trousers

WINTER UNIFORM


GIRLS:


OPTION 1
• Dark grey trousers with long grey socks.
• Top button white shirt.
• School tie
• (Baby Doll) or plain black leather lace-up shoes.
• Blazer – compulsory (daily) OR MHS all-weather rain jacket.
• School jersey – if needed

• School tie.

a.) General:
All clothing and personal possessions must be clearly marked with the owner’s name.
Unmarked items which are left at the school and not claimed from “Lost Property” within
a reasonable time will be sent to the Clothing Exchange or given to charity.


b.) Blazers:

  • 1. No buttons are to be missing.
  • 2. Blazers must be worn to and from school.
  • 3. The correct School badge must be neatly attached to the top pocket.
  • 4. At school, blazers may be removed but must be worn to Assembly.
  • c:) Trousers:
  • 1. Dark grey trousers must conform with the style laid down by the School.
  • 2. Excessively narrow or wide trouser legs are not allowed.
  • 3. Only plain, formal black belts may be worn.

  • d.) Tunics:

  • When the wearer kneels, her tunic should clear the ground; but must not be
    shorter than 15cm from the ground.

  • e.) Gloves and Scarves:
  • 1. Woollen neck scarves may be plain white, blue, black OR white with end-stripes of
    School blue.
  • 2. Head scarves may be worn for religious reasons: (e.g. during Ramadan). These must be
    plain white or school blue.
  • 3. Scarves may not be worn in the building during school hours.
  • 4. The official School (or plain black) Beanie (warm cap) may be worn to and from school
    during Term 2 and 3 only.

  • f.) Shirts:
  • 1. Top buttons must be done up and the tie must be worn correctly.
    2. This rule applies to boys all year round and to girls in winter uniform.
  • 3. Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
  • 4. Girls must wear a short-sleeved, open-neck blouse in summer – not a shirt.

    g.) Shoes:
  • 1. Boys must wear plain black lace-up shoes.
  • 2. Girls may wear (Baby Doll) or plain black leather lace-up shoes.
  • 3. All shoes must be polished regularly.

  • h.) Raincoats or Rain Jackets:

  • No raincoats or rain jackets may be worn in the school building except the MHS all weather rain jacket.

  • i.) Jewellery:
  • 1. No jewellery of any description may be worn with school uniform or sports kit.
  • 2. Medic-alert discs are allowed.
  • 3. Girls who have pierced ears may wear plain gold or silver sleepers or small round
    studs; but no more than one stud or sleeper may be worn in each ear, in the normal
    position.
  • 4.Earrings must be removed regardless of whether piercings were done during the
    holiday. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.
  • 5, No other piercings are permitted for girls e.g. nose rings.
  • 6. Boys may not wear any earrings. Earrings must be removed regardless of whether

  • j.) Hair:

  • Girls:
  • 1. Hair and braiding which is shoulder-length or longer must be tied up.
  • 2. No beads or other adornments are allowed on braiding.
  • 3. Fringes longer than just above the eyebrows must be clipped back.
  • 4. Unusual styles, dyes or tints are not allowed.
  • 5. Hair accessories must be plain blue, white or black.
  • 6. No decorative clips, bands or ribbons are allowed.

  • Boys:
  • 1. Hair must be short and neat at all times.
  • 2. Hair must be clear of the collar.
  • 3. Sideburns may reach no longer than half-way down the ears.
  • 4. No unusual styles, dyes or tints are allowed.

  • k.) Cosmetics:
  • 1. No make-up is allowed.
  • 2. Girls may only use clear nail varnish.
  • 3. Nails may not be grown longer than the fingertips.

  • l.) Shaving:

  • Boys must be clean-shaven at school as well as for sports matches and at school
    functions.

  • m.) Sports Matches and Practices:
  • 1. During matches the official uniform prescribed for the sport must be worn.
  • 2. Sports kit (plus school tracksuit or blazer) OR full school uniform should be worn in
    public after practices and before and after matches.

  • n.) Dress Code for Civvies Day:

  • Learners to wear conservative everyday wear. Caps, beanies and earrings are not allowed for
    boys. Girls are not to wear revealing clothing. Gaudy jewellery is not permitted.
